February 6, 2006 7:13 pm - Aloha Protea Farms

Dan and Donna Foster have a Protea Farm down south called Aloha Protea Farms.

When I first moved to Kona a friend gave me a protea arrangement from Dan and Donna's farm and it was gorgeous.
Not to mention they last a very long time because they just dry out and basically look the same.
This is a photo of Donna and a beautiful arrangement of proteas that she was delivering after I was done replacing the brakes on her van. Donna from Aloha Protea Farm

Actually it was pretty much a cruise this week. Work was all pretty good jobs. Some days your the bug and some days your the windshield. This week I was the windshield! I only saw 1 or 2 whales the whole week. Weird. Last week every day we saw 3 to 10... (Read Article)

February 11, 2006 11:22 pm - Chinese New Year Block Party in Kona

January 29th is the first day of the Chinese New Year. This is the Chinese Year of The Dog. Last year was the Rooster. Don't ask me how it works, something about a sixty year cycle. Every year Kona has a block party down town on Alii Dr. The... (Read Article)

February 18, 2006 2:15 pm - My friends favorite Kona activities page just added!

February 25, 2006 10:45 pm - Kuakini Hwy Improvements

Kuakini Hwy is coming along nicely. I'm very surprised at the progress up to this point. I thought by this time the road would only be about 50 percent of the amount already completed.
This project was not only widening the road but also required building extensive amounts of retaining walls along the right of way and a lot of replacing of power poles, lights and sidewalks.
Here's a picture of Kuakini Hwy looking north towards Palani Rd.

Kuakini Hwy

The idea is supposed to make Kuakini 4 lanes from Palani Rd heading south down past Pottery Terrace and then hook in to the proposed Alii Hwy. Will see...

February 26, 2006 10:30 am - Whales, Art Gallerys and Restaurants...

During this past week I've seen about 10 whales. A couple days ago I had seen 4 at the same time. They all blew their spouts at the same time.
It was very cool, looked like a freight train.

I drove to Kawaihae yesterday for photos of an art gallery.
It was a nice drive it took about 45 minutes. I went to go check out my friend Gunner's art gallery.
I'm going to build a page about it today. You can check for it at the Hawaiian Art section of Kona Friends.

We had dinner at "Don the Beachcombers"
It's located in the Royal Kona Resort Hotel here in Kailua and is just down the street from our home.
This is the first time we've ate there since they revamped the restaurant. The decor and ambiance is excellent.
The food was "ok" . I'm going to try them again to see if maybe we went on an off night as far as the food is concerned.
The other down side was parking is problem there. You really have to hunt for a spot.

That's it for now, I'm off to add Gunner's art gallery to the Hawaiian Art page...
